Oscar Carrillo is a Tax Counsel in our tax planning and tax controversy team. His practice focuses on developing and implementing tax efficient strategies for large multi-national corporations and high-net worth individual clients with significant cross-border transactions. Further, Mr. Carrillo has significant experience advocating and successfully representing clients under IRS examination (including multiple Global High-Net Wealth Audits), IRS administrative appeals, and Tax Court. His experience includes inbound and outbound tax matters, corporate taxation, U.S. international tax compliance, tax treaties, tax controversy, M&A, and corporate governance.
Prior to joining the firm, he gained experience working in the international tax department at a Big Four accounting firm. His worked consisted of a wide range of complex international tax issues and cross-border transactions, including CFC rules, foreign tax credits, withholding taxes, tax treaties, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, PFICs, FIRPTA and sourcing rules.
He received a master of law degree in taxation from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, a law degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, where he graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Carrillo is also fluent in Spanish.
